Modulation of Electrical Activity in Pancreatic (3-Cells
نویسندگان
چکیده
S. Bordin and colleagues have proposed that the depolarizing effects of acetylcholine and other muscarinic agonists on pancreatic 3-cells are mediated by a calcium release-activated current (CRAC). We support this hypothesis with additional data, and present a theoretical model which accounts for most known data on muscarinic effects. Additional phenomena, such as the biphasic responses of 13-cells to changes in glucose concentration and the depolarizing effects of the sarco-endoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase pump poison thapsigargin, are also accounted for by our model. The ability of this single hypothesis, that CRAC is present in 13-cells, to explain so many phenomena motivates a more complete characterization of this current.

Calotropis procera Root Extract\'s Anti-diabetic and Hepatoprotective Therapeutic Activity in Alloxan-Induced Pancreatic Toxicity in Wistar Rats
Background: Studies suggest that herbal remedies may serve as functional anti-diabetic agents. This study investigated the therapeutic role of Calotropis procera aqueous-methanol root extract in hyperglycaemic and hepatopathy disorders in Wistar rats after exposure to alloxan. This compound destroys pancreatic β-cells and produce diabetes in experimental animals. Methods: Spectrophotometric m...
متن کاملGap junction coupling and calcium waves in the pancreatic islet.
The pancreatic islet is a highly coupled, multicellular system that exhibits complex spatiotemporal electrical activity in response to elevated glucose levels. The emergent properties of islets, which differ from those arising in isolated islet cells, are believed to arise in part by gap junctional coupling, but the mechanisms through which this coupling occurs are poorly understood. To uncover...
متن کاملApoptosis induction and proliferation inhibition by silibinin encapsulated in nanoparticles in MIA PaCa-2 cancer cells and deregulation of some miRNAs
Objective(s): Silibinin, as an herbal compound, has anti-cancer activity. Because of low solubility of silibinin in water and body fluids, it was encapsulated in polymersome nanoparticles and its effects were evaluated on pancreatic cancer cells and cancer stem cells.Materials and Methods: MIA PaCa-2 pancreatic cancer cells were treated ...
متن کاملEffect of locus ceruleus phasic electrical stimulation on responses of barrel cortical cells to controlled mechanical displacement in rats
Behavioral and electrophysiological evidences have shown that locus ceruleus (LC) is involved in different tasks including modulation of sensory processing and shift of attention. In the present study, single unit responses of barrel cortical cells was recorded following controlled mechanical displacement of the principal and peripheral vibrissae in adult rats (100 trials of 200 µm deflection f...
متن کاملModulation of cellular transport characteristics of the human lung alveolar epithelia
Among the drug delivery and targeting (DDT) routes, lung alveolar epithelium has been given enormous attentions in terms of the delivery of a wide range of macromolecules such as gene- or protein-based nanopharmaceuticals. However, little is known about cellular modulation of lung transport characteristics by endogenous and/or exogenous agents. Thus, in the current study, impact of dexamethason...
